Systems Maintenance Chief, WWTP

About the role

The Systems Maintenance Chief is a supervisory position responsible for skilled and semi-skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of equipment, sewers (both combination and sanitary), buildings, and related appurtenances for the Waste Water Division. The role oversees mechanical, laboring, and related activities within the wastewater division, including regulators, overflow and tide gates, meter chambers, pumping and ejector stations. Responsibilities include making work assignments, inspecting, operating, and maintaining appurtenances to ensure continuous top-efficiency operation. Supervision is exercised over a staff of skilled and semi-skilled personnel for the maintenance of combination and sanitary sewers.

Responsibilities

• Perform periodic inspections of equipment and facilities to ensure smooth, efficient, and effective operation.
• Discuss operational questions, maintenance issues, or personnel concerns with the Director of Waste-Water, Superintendent, or assigned supervisor.
• Supervise and inspect a wide variety of mechanical equipment, including recording devices, electrical motors, blowers, valves, compressors, and configuration pumps.
• Operate treatment plants during emergency situations as assigned.
• Be subject to 24-hour emergency call-outs and rotating shifts.
• Enter computer data and produce records related to the sewer maintenance tracking system as required.
• Serve as the operator of record for the City of Youngstown Wastewater Collection System in accordance with Ohio EPA regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum of four years of experience in maintenance of the entire collection system.
• Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all equipment used for system maintenance, including combined and sanitary sewers.
• Current possession of a valid Ohio EPA Wastewater Collection I or Wastewater Operator I license.
• Must obtain a Wastewater Collection II or Wastewater Operator II License as issued by the Ohio EPA within two years of appointment or be removed from the position.
• Must currently hold and maintain a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with Tanker and air brake endorsement while employed in this position.
