Systems Integration And Test Engineer
About the role
The Systems Integration and Test Engineer designs, configures, integrates, tests, and documents complex networked communication systems, with a focus on Ethernet networking, VoIP/SIP platforms, and system hardware. This hands-on role owns technical work from requirements review through configuration, verification, troubleshooting, and release, while closely collaborating with engineering, production, quality, and project teams to ensure reliable, high-quality project execution in a dynamic, innovation-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Configure and validate managed network switches, including VLANs, trunks, access ports, link aggregation, IP addressing, and basic routing parameters.
- Engineer and provision VoIP phones, SIP gateways, PBX interfaces, and related communication devices in accordance with project requirements.
- Perform system integration, bench testing, functional verification, fault isolation, and root-cause troubleshooting prior to equipment deployment.
- Develop formal test plans, procedures, acceptance criteria, test records, and corrective-action documentation to support rigorous system validation.
- Create and maintain configuration baselines, wiring diagrams, interface definitions, bills of material, technical notes, and as-built records.
- Produce and review user manuals, installation instructions, maintenance procedures, and engineering work instructions to support end users and field teams.
- Interpret technical requirements, drawings, specifications, and customer documentation, and identify technical risks, conflicts, and missing information.
- Support electrical and mechanical integration activities, including cable and connector selection, terminations, rack layouts, equipment mounting, labeling, and assembly verification.
- Apply engineering change control and configuration-management practices to hardware, software, drawings, and project records.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, quality, project management, vendors, and customers to resolve technical issues and meet project milestones.
- Develop standardized configurations, reusable test methods, and process improvements that increase quality, repeatability, and efficiency.
- Provide technical support during staging, installation, commissioning, customer acceptance testing, and post-deployment troubleshooting.
Essential Skills
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills and systems-integration aptitude, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues methodically.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and comfort navigating a managed switch or router command-line interface (CLI).
- Practical experience with Ethernet networking, including configuration of managed network switches and basic routing parameters.
- Hands-on experience with VoIP and SIP platforms, including VoIP phones, SIP gateways, PBX interfaces, and related communication devices.
- Strong technical documentation skills, including the ability to develop and execute test procedures, write installation instructions and manuals, and document test results.
- Ability to read and interpret statements of work (SOWs), specifications, drawings, equipment manuals, and customer requirements, and translate them into engineered solutions.
- Capability to identify missing or conflicting requirements and determine what must be designed, configured, tested, and documented.
- Experience developing formal test plans, procedures, acceptance criteria, and corrective-action documentation.
- Ability to perform system integration, bench testing, functional verification, fault isolation, and root-cause troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in applying engineering change control and configuration-management practices to hardware, software, and technical documentation.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience creating and maintaining wiring diagrams, interface definitions, bills of material, technical notes, and as-built records.
- Background supporting electrical and mechanical integration activities, including cable and connector selection, rack layouts, equipment mounting, labeling, and assembly verification.
- Experience producing and reviewing user manuals, installation instructions, maintenance procedures, and engineering work instructions.
- Ability to develop standardized configurations, reusable test methods, and process improvements that enhance quality and efficiency.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside engineering, production, quality, project management, vendors, and customers.
- Interest in research and development, with a desire to work on new and emerging technologies rather than legacy or static products.
