Systems Integration And Test Engineer
Actalent supports the Common Infrastructure System (CIS) team in the maintenance, integration, and testing of submarine combat systems and video distribution systems. In this role, you will work as part of the SWFTS team in an Agile environment focused on continuous integration and development of both hardware and software, contributing to reliable, mission-critical solutions for naval platforms.
Responsibilities
- Interface with customers to support technical collaboration and system integration efforts for submarine combat and video distribution systems.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Perform test and evaluation activities in support of system-level testing, ensuring systems meet performance and reliability requirements.
- Develop, update, and maintain detailed test documentation and procedures that guide testing and validation efforts.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Verify and validate bug resolution, confirming that fixes are effective and do not introduce new issues.
- Manage hardware and software configurations to ensure systems are correctly built, tracked, and maintained.
- Install and maintain hardware and software components in laboratory and test environments.
- Use Agile and DevOps practices and tools to support continuous integration, testing, and delivery.
- Conduct troubleshooting and testing by following established procedures and documenting results clearly.
- Collaborate with geographically dispersed and virtual teams to coordinate testing and integration activities.
- Support travel to pier-side events to assist with navy submarine testing when required.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and stakeholders, providing updates on test progress, issues, and resolutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, or advanced submarine technical training such as Navy “A” or “C” School as a substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in systems integration, testing, or a closely related engineering field.
- Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments, supporting continuous integration and development of hardware and software.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues using established procedures and tools.
- Familiarity with Linux command line for system interaction and basic administration tasks.
- Understanding of computer system and switch architecture and how components interact within complex systems.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a self-starter mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Critical thinking skills and a continuous learning mindset to adapt to evolving technologies and processes.
- Ability to obtain and hold a DoD Secret level security clearance.
Skills
- Experience using Jira for issue tracking and Agile project management.
- Experience using Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting software in complex, integrated environments.

Work Environment
This role is based onsite in a laboratory environment in Manassas, supporting testing activities for submarine combat systems and video distribution systems. You primarily work at a major defense laboratory, with access to a nearby dedicated facility used for additional testing and integration. The core schedule runs Monday through Friday, and most team members complete 40 hours by Thursday or work a half day on Friday, with some flexibility required to test on Fridays when test bays are available. You work with modern test equipment, hardware and software configurations, and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Linux-based systems, and scripting utilities in an Agile and DevOps-oriented setting. The environment is professional, collaborative, and focused on delivering high-quality, mission-critical solutions.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year.

Schedule
