Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for avionics systems integration, validation, and verification activities.
- Lead development of customer, system, and component-level test plans and cases for airborne and ground-based avionics applications.
- Translate customer, regulatory, and internal requirements into robust test suites.
- Design, develop, and manage system integration, verification, and validation infrastructure.
- Serve as a technical authority and advisor on avionics systems IV&V topics.
- Ensure adherence to aviation standards, certification objectives, and industry best practices for safety and quality.
- Own system delivery, including hardware and software elements, ensuring quality commitments are met.
- Lead resolution of technical challenges during integration and verification phases.
- Plan and coordinate system integration and validation activities, including interface definition and test strategies.
- Support certification and compliance activities through requirements traceability, verification planning, test execution, and documentation.
- Oversee maintenance, debugging, and updates of deployed avionics solutions to ensure airworthiness and operational viability.
- Develop long-range technical roadmaps covering platforms, architectures, tools, testing strategies, and documentation needs.
- Ensure accurate, timely technical and program reporting.
- Develop tools to enhance qualification tech data packages using automation.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Systems Engineering team, fostering a safety-first and quality-driven culture.
- Define annual objectives, conduct performance reviews, and identify training and development needs.
- Promote consistent application of corporate processes, engineering standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage the team’s budget and support major technical and investment decisions.
- Act as the primary interface with internal and external hardware/software teams, partners, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate expectations, technical interfaces, and delivery timelines across multidisciplinary teams.
- Represent projects as an avionics technical spokesperson, including customer reviews and technical presentations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in systems and/or software engineering within avionics or aerospace environments, including leadership or technical lead responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience with avionic systems and certification frameworks, such as DO-160 and system-level certification processes.
- Strong understanding of avionics system and software architectures, with the ability to define cohesive hardware/software solutions.
- Experience with single board computers and architectures including x86 and ARM, with the ability to assess performance and capability tradeoffs.
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems in safety-critical or embedded environments.
- Experience with common avionics and aerospace I/O interfaces, such as Ethernet, ARINC 429, CAN bus, RS-232/422/485, discrete lines/GPIOs, and/or related data buses.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, including determinism, redundancy, latency, and certification considerations.
- Hands-on experience with Ethernet, IP, and web-based networking.
- Deep familiarity with IVV tools such as git, Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Xray, etc.), scripting (bash, Python, etc.), and databases (SQLite).
- Comfortable working on remote systems via command line (vi, ssh, scp, curl, wget, etc.).
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to properly size interconnect wiring, mount equipment, solder/crimp, etc.
- Experience with lab test tools such as Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, Vector Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Variable Frequency Power Supplies, etc.
- Proven ability to decompose customer and regulatory requirements into optimized system designs, including block diagrams, technical descriptions, and hardware/software recommendations.
- Experience across the entire system development lifecycle, including design, configuration, testing, debugging, implementation, and configuration management.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions with engineering teams, leadership, partners, and customers.

Pay
Annual base salary range: $150,000–$160,000 USD.
Work Environment
This role operates in indoor settings, including office and warehouse/airplane hangar environments, requiring the use of standard office equipment and safety gear. Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration may occur.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
