About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer to join our team supporting the US Coast Guard's Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS).

This remote position involves providing expert-level technical support, system monitoring, and troubleshooting for NAIS RF services.

The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, responsible for researching design changes, developing monitoring methodologies, and identifying complex system issues that are not detected through routine surveillance.

  • Respond promptly to system casualties, conduct troubleshooting, and develop detailed documentation and reports.
  • Contribute to the development of technical documentation, test plans, and system improvement initiatives, ensuring the NAIS operates efficiently and in compliance with standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering from an ABET-EAC accredited program (Engineering Technology degrees are not accepted).
  • Must be a US Citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in C4I System Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of direct experience with Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS).
  • Proficiency with RF transmitters, receivers, antenna propagation, RF filter networks, networking, grounding, bonding, RF interference mitigation, and related strategies.
  • Experience in researching design modifications, developing monitoring solutions, and diagnosing complex system issues beyond routine checks.
  • Able to recommend system upgrades, enhancements, or removals based on operational needs.
  • Security+ certification required within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert on NAIS hardware, software, and standards.
  • Research and recommend design changes to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Develop and implement monitoring strategies to detect and diagnose system anomalies.
  • Respond remotely to NAIS system casualties within two business days of notification.
  • Conduct on-site troubleshooting and repairs within seven business days of issue identification.
  • Research electronic components to ensure compliance with system requirements.
  • Document system casualties, out-of-tolerance conditions, and performance metrics.
  • Identify and analyze AIS and NAIS anomalies, providing corrective recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards and report deficiencies as directed.
  • Review reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as an alternate Network Administrator for remote configuration of NAIS equipment.
  • Develop and maintain FATDMA schedules and link loss budgets for NAIS base stations.
  • Advise government entities on NAIS capabilities, with approval from the COR.
  • Contribute to requirements documentation, propose solutions for gaps, and develop engineering test plans.
  • Execute test plans, identify lab equipment gaps, and reproduce anomalies in lab environments.
  • Prepare TCTO documentation for configuration changes following USCG policies.
  • Support the development of technical documentation and installation plans.
  • Assist in creating Pre-Installation Test and Checkout (PITCO) procedures.
  • Develop and submit System Improvement Reports (SIR) or System Trouble Reports (STR) as needed.
  • Contribute to engineering change documentation and maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in quarterly program management and technical working group meetings.
