About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Engineer to support the US Coast Guard's Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS). This remote position involves providing expert engineering support, system monitoring, and troubleshooting for NAIS RF services. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, responsible for researching design modifications, developing monitoring techniques, and identifying complex system issues beyond routine diagnostics. You will collaborate with US Coast Guard stakeholders to recommend system upgrades, enhancements, or removals, ensuring compliance with international standards and operational requirements. The role requires proactive response to system casualties, detailed documentation, and development of policies and procedures to optimize system performance. Occasional travel may be required for site visits and technical assessments. Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering from an ABET-EAC accredited program (Engineering Technology degrees do not meet this requirement).
• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Public Trust clearance.
• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in C4I System Engineering.
• At least two (2) years of specialized experience with Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS).
• Proficiency in RF transmitters and receivers, antenna propagation, RF filter networks, grounding and bonding, RF interference mitigation strategies.
• Experience in research design changes, developing system monitoring solutions, and diagnosing complex system issues.
• Demonstrated ability to recommend system upgrades, additions, or removals based on operational needs.
• Security+ certification required within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert on NAIS hardware, software, and related standards.
• Research and implement design modifications, develop monitoring strategies, and identify complex system anomalies.
• Recommend system upgrades, enhancements, or removals upon USCG approval.
• Respond remotely to NAIS system casualties within two business days of notification.
• Conduct initial troubleshooting and site visits to resolve system issues within seven business days.
• Research electronic components, including make, model, and manufacturer, to meet NAIS requirements.
• Document system casualties and out-of-tolerance instances to support performance metrics.
• Develop processes, policies, and procedures for identifying and addressing system underperformance.
• Identify anomalies within AIS and NAIS systems and propose corrective actions.
• Assess NAIS compliance with international standards and report deficiencies as directed.
• Review reports and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Act as an alternate Network Administrator for remote configuration of NAIS site equipment.
• Develop and maintain FATDMA schedules and link loss budgets for NAIS base stations.
• Advise government entities on NAIS capabilities with approval from the COR.
• Contribute to requirements documents, propose solutions for gaps, and develop engineering test plans.
• Execute test plans, identify testing gaps, and reproduce anomalies in lab environments.
• Prepare TCTO documentation for configuration changes per USCG policies.
• Support the development of technical documentation, installation plans, and testing procedures.
• Develop and submit System Improvement Reports (SIR) and System Trouble Reports (STR) as required.
• Assist in developing maintenance procedures and participate in program management and technical meetings.
