About the role

At Northrop Grumman, employees work on revolutionary systems that impact lives worldwide, from historic milestones like the first trans‑Atlantic flight and stealth bombers to lunar landings. The company seeks a Systems Engineer with a focus on MATLAB/Simulink to support NASIC/NSIC and related intelligence missions. The role involves developing, modifying, and applying physics‑based models of mechanical and aerospace systems to support mission‑level analysis of current and future military capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and validate TMAP models to represent mechanical, aerospace, and space‑related systems in support of intelligence analysis.
  • Use MATLAB/Simulink (especially Simulink) to develop and integrate component‑ and system‑level models and to support analysis workflows.
  • Integrate TMAP and MATLAB/Simulink models with broader modeling & simulation environments, including AFSIM and other tools when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers, analysts, and government/DoD personnel to understand system behavior and mission context, translate analysis requirements into model architectures, and quantify and communicate uncertainty, assumptions, and limitations.
  • Apply coding skills (e.g., Python, C++, or similar languages) to automate workflows, process data, and support model execution.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and intel‑based reports that describe modeling approaches, input assumptions, and analytical findings.
  • Work within an Agile development environment, using tools such as Jira to manage tasks and collaborate effectively.
  • Communicate technical information and results clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship with an active TS/SCI security clearance (and ability to maintain it).
  • Systems Engineer (Level 2): Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM discipline and 2+ years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in a related STEM discipline and 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Systems Engineer (Level 3): Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related STEM discipline and 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree in a related STEM discipline and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience using MATLAB, with strong proficiency in Simulink.
  • Hands‑on coding experience in one or more languages (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB).
  • Demonstrated familiarity with modeling & simulation of mechanical or aerospace systems.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a technical team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience using or modifying TMAP models, especially in an IC or NASIC/NSIC context.
  • Experience with AFSIM or other modeling & simulation platforms (e.g., STK, NGTS, ITASE).
  • Experience working on Agile development teams, including use of Jira.
  • Experience interpreting and working with intel‑based data and reports to inform models.
  • Prior IC/domain experience (working with NASIC/NSIC or similar organizations).
  • Experience documenting complex models and analysis results for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts, SysML, or Cameo.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance may be available.
  • Health insurance coverage.
  • Life and disability insurance.
  • Savings plan.
  • Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
  • Eligibility for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses designed to reward individual contributions and share in company results.
  • Long Term Incentives for employees in Vice President or Director positions.
