About the role
Northrop Grumman is seeking Principal Systems Engineers/Sr. Principal Systems Engineers for our Space sector in Azusa, CA. The qualified candidate will join the SEIT System Performance Analysis team, contributing to revolutionary systems that impact lives globally.
Responsibilities
- Apply comprehensive understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, test, and verification.
- Demonstrate technical and program review board leadership.
- Provide technical solutions to complex problems, working under general direction with independently determined approaches.
- Support chief engineers in defect analysis and path forward development.
- Contribute to Change Proposal Development, Risk Management, and Opportunity analysis.
- Represent the organization in addressing difficult technical issues with frequent inter-organizational and customer contacts.
- Collaborate with program IPT counterparts to develop rigorous systems engineering and design analysis artifacts.
- Work with technical teams and stakeholders to mature the design of large System of Systems (SoS) programs.
- Develop and incorporate system requirements, ensuring proper representation in models.
- Contribute to system requirements development, management, and performance analysis.
- Develop unifying model techniques, procedures, processes, and performance analysis for the system.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or advanced degree (Master’s/PhD) with relevant experience:
- Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s with 5+ years, Master’s with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ year.
- Sr. Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s with 8+ years, Master’s with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years.
- Active DoD Secret clearance required at application; ability and willingness to obtain Top Secret clearance before start date.
- Proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and systems thinking.
- Experience with MATLAB, C, C++, CUDA, SysML, MBSE, Python, Julia, Cameo, Rhapsody, DOORS, Jira, Confluence, or similar languages/tools.
- Experience working in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment.
- Travel required: 10% of the time.
- No relocation assistance available.
Preferred Qualifications
- Agile development experience.
- Domain knowledge or course history in space systems.
- Experience in abstract modeling environments (Rhapsody, Cameo, UML, SysML) for space systems evaluation.
- Experience performing system verification and validation.
- Working knowledge of EOIR systems, optics, algorithms, detection, or tracking.
- Experience with model-based systems engineering concepts (SysML) and tools (Cameo, Rhapsody).
- Experience with virtual environments, operational analysis, or mission modeling (AFSIM, STK, BRAWLER, ATCOM, ONESAF, SIMULINK).
- Experience in integration and test environments for dynamic systems (CubeSats, Rockets, Robotics).
- Cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher.
- U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with relevant special programs access.

Pay
- Principal Systems Engineer (T-03) salary range: $114,000 – $171,000.
- Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (T-04) salary range: $142,200 – $213,400.
- Base salary determined by experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
- Eligibility for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses depending on the position.
- Annual bonuses tied to individual contributions and company results.
- Long-term incentives for Vice President or Director positions.
