About the role
The Systems Engineer will design, build, and maintain all server hardware, operating systems, storage, and data protection systems. This role manages Acuity’s virtualization environment, storage systems, CI/CD, containers, backup and recovery, and disaster recovery operations. The team collaborates closely with engineers and application developers to meet infrastructure needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and maintenance for distributed or open systems servers.
- Provide support and maintenance for all virtualization of servers.
- Provide support and maintenance for AIX, Linux, and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Provide support and maintenance for data replication systems.
- Provide support and maintenance for 3rd party applications as necessary.
- Apply progressive security practices to networking, operating systems, software, and hardware.
- Work with tapeless backup/recovery systems and document these processes.
- Demonstrate detailed understanding and experience with network protocols.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
- Train local and remote users on operating system software packages and hardware operation.
- Test new software products, releases, and hardware devices.
- Assist in establishing standards and trouble reporting procedures.
- Assist in system performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning.
- Assist in the integration of multiple hardware platforms.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery plan rehearsals.
- Design new or revised architectures to support present and future cross-functional requirements.
- Remain current with company and industry directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent, with continued field-specific education.
- 3–5 years of practical experience in computer operations, applications, technical support, or information security.
- Deep expertise in operating systems, containers, and orchestration.
- CI/CD expertise related to packaging and distribution.
- Experience with configuration management, playbook scripting, and pipelines.
- Full understanding of operating system hardware, software, network components, security, and/or database management systems.
- Ability to provide exact audit trails and recovery points during project life cycles.
- Ability to work cooperatively with technical and non-technical users and vendors.
- Strong listening skills and ability to competently train others.
- Willingness to respond to problems with little notice and adjust off-hours scheduling for project installations.
- Depending on responsibilities, may be required to reside within a 2-hour radius of Acuity corporate headquarters.
- Accountability to respond when reached for assistance during and outside typical work hours, including participation in an off-hour call list.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $76,500 – $110,000 annually, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
