Open Systems Technologies Corporation is seeking a Senior Engineer to support operations for a large federal government data center.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, test, certify, and patch the base data backup system and all related features, components, and application dependencies, including Storage Area Network (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Tape, local disk, Fibre Channel, and iSCSI.
- Design, implement, and provide ongoing support of the Backup Infrastructure.
- Serve as the advanced subject-matter expert for all Backup environments.
- Create and maintain backup infrastructure for both bare-metal and virtual machines with appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations using OEM and third-party tools on Linux and Windows environments.
- Provision and configure required backups for Linux and Windows servers.
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain information security throughout the backup infrastructure.
- Monitor and correct backup issues, create recovery processes for failures and performance bottlenecks, and configure alerts for proactive response.
- Install, configure, test, and maintain system management tools, SAN and Tape infrastructure, and server plugins with the latest hardware and software patches and firmware versions.
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, including verification of data replication, failover copies, and redundant data sets.
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and reduce human intervention time on tasks, such as monitoring backup storage with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
- Provide 3rd-level support.
- Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
- Ensure technical documentation exists for all systems and is kept up to date, including inventory and patch levels of all systems (hostnames, property numbers, IP addresses, enclave, cores, processors, admin passwords, certificates, and service accounts) on a monthly basis.
- Integrate systems with Windows and Linux as it applies to core service dependencies.
- Document system configurations, including passwords, access controls, version numbers, revision numbers, patch levels, and inventory (hostnames, TCP/IP addresses, processors, cores, memory, and license keys).
- Transition knowledge to Government staff through training and assistance on technology usage following industry best practices.
- Provide real-time reporting of backup storage consumption and utilized resources, including performance metrics for tape and disk space, storage availability, performance, and trends.
Requirements
- Active Top Secret clearance and willingness to sit for a CI Poly.
- Minimum of six years’ experience with NetBackup and IBM Spectrum Protect Suite; Cohesity experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
