Systems Engineer II (Backup)

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, test, certify, patch, address interoperability issues of the base data backup system and all features, components, and application dependencies.
• Create and maintain backup infrastructure for bare-metal and virtual machines with appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations, using both OEM and third-party tools on Linux and Windows environments.
• Provision/configure required backups for Linux and Windows servers.
• Evaluate, improve, and maintain information security throughout the backup infrastructure.
• Maintain systems and infrastructure availability, including verification of replication of data, failover copies, and redundant data sets.
• Monitor and correct backup issues, create recovery processes for failures and performance bottlenecks, and configure alerts for proactive response times.
• Install, configure, test, and maintain system management tools, SAN, and Tape infrastructure, and server plugins with the latest hardware and software patches and firmware versions.
• Ensure technical documentation exists for all systems and is kept up to date, including inventory and patch levels of all systems.
• Integrate systems with Windows and Linux as it applies to core service dependencies.
• Document system configurations, including passwords, access controls, version numbers, and revision numbers, patch levels, and inventory.
• Provide real-time reporting of backup storage consumed and utilized resources, including performance metrics for tape and disk space consumption, storage availability, performance, and trends.
• Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
• Provide 3rd level support.
• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
• Continually transition knowledge to the Government staff through training and assistance on how to use the technology using industry best practices.

Requirements

• Clearance: Top Secret and willing to sit for CI Poly
• Minimum of six years’ experience with NetBackup and IBM Spectrum Protect Suite experience required.
• Cohesity experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
