About the role
The Systems Engineer II at Tandem Diabetes Care supports system engineering activities for both new and existing features within mobile applications. This role plays a key part in defining, designing, and driving the development of new capabilities, while also supporting features deployed in the field.
Responsibilities
- Develops system-level solutions and requirements for mobile application features, with a strong emphasis on globalized product design.
- Collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure scalable, high-quality solutions that meet user and business needs.
- Contributes to the definition of system-level requirements, interface specifications, and subsystem designs.
- Works across teams to ensure alignment, traceability, and integration of system architecture within the broader product ecosystem.
- Supports on-market products technical support troubleshooting, failure analysis, and triage of system level issues.
- Contributes to the development and maintenance of inter-system interface specifications and contracts, considering cross-subsystem impacts.
- Contributes to the risk management process and derives risk mitigation requirements.
- Maintains tight collaboration with the teams responsible for product V&V, reviews test plans and protocols, and helps triage issues uncovered during testing activities.
- Works closely with the software development teams to flow down the system and subsystem requirements and assists with establishing traceability.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Biomedical Engineering required, or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- Advanced coursework, master’s degree, or professional licensing in related field desirable.
- 2+ years’ experience working as a Systems Engineer or with systems engineering responsibilities (required).
- 2+ years’ experience working in a regulated industry; Medical Device industry (preferred).
- Demonstrated capability in Systems Engineering practices such as requirements management, design trade-off and cost-benefit analysis, system failure modes and adversarial scenario analysis.
- Experience with requirements management systems highly desirable.
- Ability to work and deliver a high-quality work product with mentoring.
- Ability to effectively convey information related to work product and lead review discussions.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following: ISO 13845, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, HIPAA and/or GDPR.

Pay
The starting base pay range for this position is $81,000 - $110,000 annually.
Schedule
This role will be a mix of in-office work at our corporate headquarters in Del Mar, CA and remote work. This position is expected to be in office 2-3 days per week but may vary depending on business demands.
