Systems Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (VDI) in Newington, VA to support a mission‑critical Department of Defense customer. This senior engineering role is responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and security of a large‑scale Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment, with a focus on Omnissa Horizon (VMware Horizon), VMware vSphere, endpoint management, automation, and secure enterprise desktop solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools.
• Manage thin‑client devices and endpoint configurations using enterprise management platforms.
• Support profile management solutions to provide a seamless and reliable end‑user experience.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve operational efficiency.
• Perform pre‑production testing and validation of VDI image updates, patches, configuration changes, and monitor VDI performance.
• Ensure VDI environments comply with DoD security requirements, including DISA STIG implementation.
• Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity, and customer teams to support mission objectives.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• 8+ years of systems engineering or related experience.
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Hands‑on experience supporting Omnissa Horizon (VMware Horizon) hosted on VMware vSphere.
• Experience managing thin‑client environments, including Dell Wyse or similar platforms.
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills.
• Knowledge of Group Policy (GPO) management within VDI environments.
• Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance requirements.
• Experience with VDI monitoring and performance management tools.

Work location: On‑site in Newington, VA. Travel: Less than 10%.

Pay

Salary range up to $175,000 depending on experience.
