Systems Engineer
About the Role
Join Rosendin, where you will be part of a world-class team of engineers that design, develop, manage, start-up, commission, and complete turnkey power distribution systems for hyper-scale data center campuses. This role involves working on complex power distribution systems with a focus on protection or automation control, project management, and collaboration with vendors and manufacturers to create innovative, cost-effective solutions.
Responsibilities
- Pre-construction design and development of complete power system protection and control using overcurrent protection relays, transformer and bus differential protection relays, line differential protection relays, PLC, and RTAC for automatic transfer schemes.
- Design and develop site-wide electrical distribution Sequence of Operation to ensure system reliability and resiliency.
- Coordinate with utility providers, turbine power plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), or a combination of all three.
- Specify, evaluate, and review vendor or manufacturer submittals and equipment to ensure conformity with system design requirements.
- Conduct vendor coordination meetings to ensure seamless integration of all systems and equipment.
- Design and develop mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical interlock systems.
- Collaborate with internal teams to specify proper relaying with appropriate instrument transformers for secure and dependable operation.
- Design and develop system-wide automation systems using PLC or RTAC style industrial controllers, including:
- System overload prevention
- Multipurpose busway interlocks
- Load management systems
- Generator plant load curtailment systems
- Gen plant start and load controls, including selective load pickup and load shed schemes
- Design and develop relay protection and automation logics for SEL, ABB, Siemens, or GE relays.
- Develop system protection and control architecture such as IEC61850, mirrored bit, protection interface, Modbus, DNP, etc.
- Provide power system failure analysis, Sequence of Event analysis, and/or develop metering/triggering systems for proper event capture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 8+ years of engineering design experience in electrical power systems.
- Self-starting with a passion for learning new technologies and products.
- Strong understanding of power distribution systems, relaying, and automation systems.
- In-depth working knowledge of SEL-751, SEL-787, SEL-487E, SEL-2411, SEL-3350 RTAC, Siemens 7SX82/85, Siemens 7UT, ABB REF615, etc.
- In-depth product knowledge of electrical power system components such as emergency generators, transformers, switchgears, switchboards, automatic transfer switches, protective relays, UPS systems, DRUPS systems, motors, Static Transfer Switches, PDUs, battery storage systems (BESS), inverters, PV systems, wind turbines, and substation equipment.
- Ability to understand power system studies and analyze Time-Current Curves (TCCs).
- Strong result-driven attitude and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions
- General work environment: sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending.
- Work is primarily conducted indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
- Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
- Travel up to 25%.
