Systems Engineer

About the role

The Systems Engineer is responsible for standing up and maintaining AWS infrastructure supporting all aspects of PLM software implementations to meet customer required security, functionality, and performance requirements on all Production and non-Production environments. This role involves supporting PLM application development projects for DoD customers.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business and security requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Plan, implement, and refine cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) with a focus on performance, scalability, and cost savings, including evaluating transitions from monolithic to cluster architectures, establishing load balancers, and backup/recovery plans.
• Utilize Ansible playbooks for automation, secure applications with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), manage TLS/SSL certificates, and enforce secure authentication mechanisms.
• Administer RDS Oracle and RDS PostgreSQL databases, including initial data seeding, schema configurations, running scripts, query execution for troubleshooting, and optimizing database performance.
• Support installing and performing upgrades of PLM application software, applying critical patch sets, and addressing security vulnerabilities across the technical stack.
• Support rehosts and data refreshes on non-production environments as needed.
• Conduct comprehensive testing, including unit, integration, and system testing, to ensure application infrastructure and performance are maintained.
• Debug and resolve complex application or customization defects, including performance and infrastructure-related investigations.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation for all environment infrastructure.
• Establish and maintain certifications in relevant PLM, cloud, and security platforms/technologies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Currently hold Security+ certification.
• Currently hold relevant AWS certifications.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or other engineering discipline; advanced degree, relevant internship experience, or equivalent hands-on industry experience may be considered.
• Minimum two years of experience working with and setting up AWS cloud services to host enterprise applications.
• Experience managing Ansible playbooks.
• Experience with AWS services including EC2 (compute configurations), S3 (storage management), RDS (database administration), Fleet Manager (remote access and automation), Secrets Manager (credential security), and CloudWatch (logging, monitoring, and alerting).
• Experience maintaining and optimizing performance of enterprise applications hosted in the cloud.
• Experience diagnosing networking-related issues.
• Experience managing Active Directory and AppStream.
• Experience collaborating with AWS Technical Support.
• Experience setting up and working with virtualized environments.
• Experience with installation and maintenance of database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and SQL scripting.
• Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 8+ and Windows Server administration using CLI for OS-level configurations, including file system manipulation and storage configurations.

• Currently holds an active U.S. national security clearance or be able to receive and maintain one.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing or updating code using languages like Java, Python, C++, or C#.
• Experience with and certifications in Agile software development methodologies.
• In-depth understanding of the aerospace and defense industry.
• Knowledge of DoD software development policies, cybersecurity requirements, and RMF compliance framework.
• Experience with administration of at least one mainstream PLM application (PTC Windchill, Arena, FlexPLM, Siemens Teamcenter, Oracle PLM, Agile PLM, etc.).

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Schedule

This position is hybrid, located in St. Paul, MN. Fully remote candidates may be considered with increased expectation for travel (up to 10%). Hybrid work arrangements are strongly preferred to support regular in-person collaboration with program and project teams. Employees may telework on designated days or as needed with supervisor approval. Travel may be required 1–2 times per month to customer sites, subcontractor locations, and other company offices.

Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information and the ability to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL). Candidates must be U.S. citizens to qualify.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $112,017 – $141,190 USD per year (Remote, United States).
