Systems Engineer
About the role
Leidos Defense is seeking a Systems Engineer to join a team developing a radar system. The role involves travel to customer and subcontractor sites (approximately 10% of the time) and the development of systems engineering artifacts such as Requirements Specifications, Test Procedures, and Test Reports. The position is within a matrixed organization supporting multiple programs across various engineering disciplines. Upon completion of the radar program, the Systems Engineer may transition to another program within the matrixed engineering portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Develop systems engineering artifacts, including Requirements Specifications, Test Procedures, and Test Reports.
- Work in a matrixed organization supporting multiple programs simultaneously across diverse engineering fields and team environments.
- Travel to customer and subcontractor sites (approximately 10% of the time).
- Derive requirements for complex electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software systems.
- Develop and execute system and sub-system verification activities.
- Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment and communicate effectively within the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with 5+ years of experience.
- OR a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience deriving requirements for complex systems across electrical, electro-mechanical, mechanical, and software domains.
- Experience developing and executing system and sub-system verification activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
- Effective communication skills within a team setting.
- Residency in the North Alabama area or willingness to relocate to the Huntsville – North Alabama, AL area.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Qualifications
- Preference for candidates with a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- 2–4 years of direct systems engineering experience.
- Experience leading a team of engineers.
- Experience communicating with customer representatives during engineering development and fielding efforts.
- Ability to accurately estimate engineering effort (hours) for Systems Engineering tasks.
- Understanding of DoD acquisition processes and methods.
- Experience supporting one or more DoD programs.
- Experience in formal testing for requirements verification and validation, particularly with radar programs.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with radar test and analysis tools, including DRFM technology and MATLAB.
- Experience with Cameo and/or other Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) modeling tools.
- Experience with Jama and/or other requirements database tools.
Pay
The Leidos pay range for this job level is $87,100.00 – $157,450.00. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, market data alignment, applicable bargaining agreements, and applicable law.
