About the role
The Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC), AWS Commerce Platform team is hiring a cleared Systems Development Engineer. This role is an opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud solutions and solve technical problems. You will build and support Amazon’s billing systems in air-gapped cloud environments, as well as services and tooling to improve operational efficiency. Your work will unlock billing and cost management capabilities for all U.S. ADC customers.
A successful Systems Development Engineer focuses on building services and tooling that enhance operational posture while considering scalability, availability, and readiness. This role operates at the intersection of business problems and technology strategy, balancing constraints and long-term design implications.
This position requires an active TS/SCI security clearance. After starting, the selected candidate must obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph or equivalent for each government agency they support.
Responsibilities
- Root-cause customer issues and investigate metric trends.
- Consult with top Amazon engineers and explore automation for operational issue remediation.
- Design and build scalable systems to support platform growth.
- Measure success by the visible impact on government service efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver results for customers while navigating public sector regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Professional software development experience (non-internship).
- Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
- Associate's degree or above, or CND (Certified Network Defender) or GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials) certification.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby).
- Experience with automation tools for building, testing, releasing, or monitoring.
- Active U.S. Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Python scripting.
- Experience with highly concurrent, high-throughput systems and complex distributed systems.

Pay
Base salary range: $99,100 – $160,000 USD annually (Denver, CO). Total compensation includes sign-on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and comprehensive benefits.
