Systems Architect
This is a hybrid role requiring at least 2 days per week in office at our new location: 2301 Commonwealth Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
About the role
The Office of University Development maximizes private support for the University of Michigan. As the Systems Architect, you will report to the Executive Director of Development Services (DS3) - Digital Infrastructure. You will design and implement a comprehensive IT architecture aligned with OUD's strategic vision, develop robust data models, facilitate seamless data flows, and integrate complex applications across multiple platforms. This role involves providing technical leadership, addressing integration challenges, and collaborating with diverse university partners to guide technology adoption.
Responsibilities

- Facilitate seamless data flows and integrate complex applications across platforms.
- Apply expertise in microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
- Provide technical leadership to address complex integration challenges.
- Collaborate with university partners to guide technology adoption.
- Define and enforce standards for data architecture, security, and reference data management.
- Ensure a secure and scalable IT ecosystem.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science/engineering, data science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience designing and implementing system architectures, including at least 1 year in an official Architect role.
- Expertise in data modeling, SQL, and database management (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Redis, or Elasticsearch preferred).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), DevOps, and infrastructure tools (AWS Data Lake, Databricks, and AWS-managed services preferred).
- Knowledge of real-time data streaming, container orchestration, and real-time analytics (Docker/Kubernetes, OpenShift, ECS, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Amazon MQ preferred).
- Comprehensive expertise in computer and information security practices.
- Proficiency in developing enterprise-level applications and integrating complex systems (microservices architecture, Java, Python, Spring Boot, JavaScript, React, Angular, or Node.js preferred).
- Foundation in system development lifecycle, including project management, requirement gathering, design, and testing (UML/ERDs, Test-Driven Development, JUnit, Selenium, or Postman preferred).
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proven experience with Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and DevOps (Jira, Git, GitLab, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, or Heroku preferred).

Pay
$105,000.00 - $115,000.00
