About the role

This is a 30-month contract position with the New York State Department of Labor, delivered via i-Link Solutions. Daily work focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting secure, scalable cloud architectures on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that meet the agency’s business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Solution Design and Architecture: Design scalable, reliable, and secure cloud architectures on GCP; select appropriate GCP services (Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Cloud Functions, etc.) for specific use cases; create high-level and detailed technical designs including network topology, data flow, security controls, and disaster recovery strategies; ensure adherence to architectural best practices such as cost optimization, performance tuning, and industry standards.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide guidance to development and operations teams; mentor junior engineers; share expertise on GCP services and cloud architecture; collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Implementation and Deployment: Oversee implementation and deployment of cloud solutions on GCP; develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager; configure and manage GCP services (VMs, containers, databases, networking); implement CI/CD pipelines for automated application deployment and management.
  • Security and Compliance: Design and implement IAM, network security, data encryption, and threat detection on GCP; ensure compliance with Pub 1075, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS; participate in security reviews and vulnerability assessments with authorized security teams.
  • Performance Optimization and Cost Management: Monitor cloud application and infrastructure performance; identify and implement optimizations; develop cost-management strategies including resource rightsizing and reserved instances.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to GCP services and cloud applications; provide ongoing support and maintenance; participate in on-call rotations for critical incidents.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architectures, designs, and implementations.

Requirements

  • 72 months designing and architecting scalable, reliable, and secure cloud solutions on GCP, including selecting appropriate services, creating technical designs, and following best practices.
  • 84 months hands-on experience with GCP services, IaC (Terraform or Cloud Deployment Manager), configuring VMs/containers/databases/networking, and implementing CI/CD pipelines.
  • 84 months designing and implementing GCP security controls (IAM, encryption, threat detection) and ensuring compliance with Pub 1075, GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DSS.
  • 84 months monitoring performance, optimizing systems, and managing cloud costs on GCP.
  • 60 months providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with stakeholders to translate requirements into solutions.
  • 84 months diagnosing and resolving technical issues, providing ongoing support, and participating in on-call rotations.
  • 60 months creating and maintaining technical documentation.
