About the role

The Systems and Infrastructure Engineer supports Linux-based systems and related infrastructure that underpin GALILEO, GIL, and related statewide library services. This position supports production and non-production environments across on-premises, vendor-hosted, and cloud-connected systems.

Responsibilities

  • Linux Systems and Infrastructure Operations: Provides day-to-day support of server systems and related infrastructure, including monitoring systems and services, reviewing logs and alerts, and responding to outages or urgent operational issues as needed.
  • Automation, Platform, and Integration Support: Implement, automate, and support infrastructure, application environments, and related service platforms that support GALILEO, GIL, DLG, and related statewide library services.
  • Collaboration, Support, and Communication: Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding work progress, technical issues, risks, and service impacts. Work effectively within an iterative, Agile-inspired team environment and coordinate with developers, support staff, partner units, and other stakeholders on supported systems and services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience.
  • Four years of experience administering Linux servers in a production, academic, or comparable environment.
  • Two years of experience with Linux-based hypervisors and command-line tools for monitoring and troubleshooting virtualized environments.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with networking, virtualization, cloud-connected environments, and containerized application deployment concepts.
  • Effective communication, documentation, and collaboration skills in a team with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Comfort learning and using AI-assisted tools appropriately to support operational and technical work.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and related automation workflows.
  • Experience supporting web applications, certificates, and access management in a higher education, public sector, or similarly complex environment.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Linux systems administration and infrastructure support concepts.
  • Ability to read, write, and maintain administrative scripts and work with Git-based workflows for infrastructure and automation (Infrastructure as Code).

Pay

  • $68k-$80k, commensurate with experience

Schedule

  • M-F; 8 hrs/day; some evening and weekend work and/or on-call duty may be required. This position is based on site at UGA, with a hybrid work schedule available based on operational needs and supervisor approval.
