Systems Administrator Senior/Lead
About the role
The Systems Administrator Senior/Lead provides system or network administration to support and maintain the installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring and troubleshooting of systems for the IT Infrastructure and Security Division of the Sheriff’s Office. This role provides third-tier technical support for system and/or network operating systems and applications, applying advanced technical expertise to highly complex assignments requiring independent discretion and judgment. The position operates in a senior level role with an extreme focus on customer service and may provide leadership to Systems Administrators or other IT staff.
Responsibilities
- Manages the server operating system and virtualization environment, including coordination and/or generating, tuning, configuring and upgrading.
- Administers, assigns, and coordinates server/storage/virtualization equipment repairs and maintenance of system security.
- Troubleshoots and resolves server hardware, software and LAN connectivity problems.
- Prioritizes and manages support calls by working with helpdesk and trouble call software.
- Maintains high level of communication with customers when scheduling hardware and software installations and performing support calls.
- Maintains disk space and monitors other network resources.
- Evaluates system performance and reports to management.
- Coordinates installations and configures server-based and regular software packages onto network servers to facilitate deployment to clients.
- Maintains network security through various processes such as security policy design, firewall installation, configuration and maintenance, VPN implementation, security technologies, products and solutions.
- Manages LAN accounts including additions, deletions, moves, and changes.
- Supports application activities that require specialized system programming.
- Affords assistance with software product evaluation, including installation, testing and technical support for the applications programming and/or the computer operations staff.
- Analyzes the impact of implementing new system hardware or software, recommends implementation schedule, conducts system analysis on current and proposed systems and applications, and researches and recommends the acquisition of new software, tools and equipment.
- Represents the department at meetings.
- Performs audits of systems/networks.
- Recommends policy changes and maintains maintenance documentation.
- Trains, supervises, and assigns work to technical support staff and other Systems/Network Administrators as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or closely related field.
- Experience: Four (4) years of related work experience in administering, configuring, managing, installing and troubleshooting server and storage systems. OR Combined Education And Experience Qualifications.
Skills
- Knowledge of Advanced to expert level - Microsoft Windows Server administration with Active Directory.
- Advanced to expert level - software such as VMWare, Forcepoint Internet proxy, NetMotion VPN, RSA Security, Ivanti Management Suite, Symantec Antivirus, Microsoft Data Protection Backup solutions, SAN & NAS technologies, PowerShell Scripting, MSOffice Suite 2010 through Office 365.
- Advanced to expert level - hardware such as CPUs, SCSI controllers, RAID arrays, Blades, SAN & NAS Technology.
- Cloud technology (AWS/Azure, etc.).
- Advanced to expert level - overall computer operating procedures, server and workstation operating systems and platforms, current techniques and capabilities of local and wide area networks.

Pay
Pay Range Min - 1st Quartile - Mid - Max $82,000.00 - $94,625.00 - $107,250.00 - $132,500.00
