Systems Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to support a TEKsystems Client, providing both Linux server administration and end-user technical support for faculty and staff. This individual will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting Linux-based systems, ensuring system reliability, security, and performance while also serving as a key technical resource for daily IT operations.

In addition to infrastructure support, this role will provide Tier 2 desktop support across a mixed computing environment that includes both Windows and macOS devices. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with end users, has strong troubleshooting abilities, and enjoys delivering high-quality customer service. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, communication skills, and a commitment to supporting the mission of the client.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar distributions)
• Perform server patching, upgrades, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Provide Tier 2 desktop support for Windows and macOS devices in an enterprise environment
• Manage user administration via Active Directory, Azure AD, or LDAP
• Work with endpoint management tools (Jamf, Intune, SCCM, or similar)
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and peripheral issues independently
• Support faculty, researchers, or higher education environments
• Prioritize competing requests and manage multiple support tickets simultaneously
• Apply networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VPN connectivity

Requirements

• Experience administering Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar distributions)
• Knowledge of server patching, upgrades, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Experience supporting both Windows and macOS operating systems in an enterprise environment
• Familiarity with Active Directory, Azure AD, or LDAP user administration
• Experience with endpoint management tools (Jamf, Intune, SCCM, or similar)
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VPN connectivity
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and peripheral issues independently
• Experience supporting faculty, researchers, or higher education environments is a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to prioritize competing requests and manage multiple support tickets simultaneously
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)

Pay

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
