About the role
Ensure the Safety & Reliability attributes of products are understood and risks are managed to an acceptable level. Contribute to capability acquisition/improvement and technical/process governance of the S&R capability.
Responsibilities
- Understand product degradation and failure mechanisms, their consequences, and associated hazards.
- Develop and deploy models to characterize these mechanisms using deterministic or probabilistic/data mining techniques.
- Lead and conduct assessments of new and derivative design solutions/architectures, product operation and maintenance practices to evaluate their impact on product Safety & Reliability.
- Develop and deploy models at component, system, and asset levels to characterize product Safety & Reliability attributes.
- Support part/function classification activities.
- Analyse and quantify risks associated with human/system interaction, addressing both Human Error and hazards arising from personnel errors, as well as Hazards to personnel from system/equipment malfunctions, damage, or design features.
- Support product development and entry into service phases through the coordination and/or provision of Safety & Reliability documentation (e.g., FHA, FMECA, SSA, TLD, safety class analysis, fault schedules, OCL, etc.).
- Support the FRACAS or relevant event management system both in development and in-service phases.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities on Safety & Reliability matters on behalf of the specific specialist discipline.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Engineering with 1+ years of experience, or Master's degree in the same fields, or PhD in the same fields.
- Strong interest in statistics, probability, and reliability prediction.
- Multi-disciplinary collaboration skills, including facilitation and communication at the component, sub-system, and system level.
- Basic understanding of Safety and/or Reliability engineering tools (e.g., Weibull++, XFMEA, XFRACAS, @RISK, Reliability Workbench).
- Experience in deploying Safety and/or Reliability engineering tools and methods.
- Member of ASQ working towards Certified Reliability Engineer credentials.

- US Citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance.
