System Operator Associate
About the role
This position provides assistance to ensure the efficient operation of the transmission system, coordinates operations with various entities, and performs routine and emergency switching/tagging operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain system voltage levels and real and reactive power flows.
- Operate the AEP transmission system in coordination with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
- Prepare and direct switching orders for equipment removal/restoration.
- Monitor and report on the operation of metering and communication facilities.
- Assist in restoring equipment and customers to service during emergencies.
- Operate and monitor the SCADA system and its associated functions.
- Document events and transactions related to facility and equipment operations.
Requirements
- Entry-level candidates should have a two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
- OR High School diploma and 2 years of experience in a position demonstrating operational skills.
- Valid state driver’s license.
- Must pass SO/PD test.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle diverse situations.
- Clear communication skills.
- Twelve-hour rotating shift schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Some travel and exposure to hazardous situations.
- Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and customers.
Qualifications
- Must have the ability to report to worksites promptly for emergency events.
Skills
- Knowledge of power systems and transmission operations.
- Ability to operate SCADA systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay
$94,500/year
Schedule
Sixteen-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
