System & Network Administrator
Position Summary: The Systems & Network Administrator is responsible for configuring, managing, and securing the Town of Hudson’s on-premises and cloud-based technology environments. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of core Microsoft 365 (M365) services — including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Barracuda email security and backup platform, while supporting server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, enterprise networking, and critical municipal systems used by Town departments, including Police and Fire. The Administrator supports daily operational needs, contributes to long-term technology planning, and plays a key role in implementing the Town’s cybersecurity and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Microsoft 365 Administration
- Manage, monitor, and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive.
- Provision user accounts, manage licenses, and maintain group structures within Microsoft Entra ID; oversee access controls and feature updates across the M365 tenant.
- Infrastructure & Network Administration
- Support and maintain the Town’s HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged servers and VMware virtual infrastructure.
- Collaborate with the CIO in designing, planning, and supporting network infrastructure across Police, Fire, and Town departments.
- Security & Compliance
- Identity & Access Management: Implement and enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Single Sign-On (SSO), and Conditional Access policies.
- Email Security & Backup: Administer the Barracuda Email Security Gateway (smart host), which intercepts, scans, and filters all inbound and outbound email traffic to the M365 tenant; monitor and configure Barracuda backups for M365 data.
- Threat Protection: Monitor CrowdStrike dashboards to identify, respond to, and remediate security threats and incidents.
- Device Management: Enforce Microsoft Intune compliance, configuration, and protection policies for Town-issued devices.
- Auditing & Reporting: Conduct routine security audits, produce compliance documentation, and investigate potential security events or policy violations.
- Application & End-User Support
- Manage finance application upgrades and provide end-user support for finance-related systems.
- Install, configure, and upgrade application software and computer hardware.
Requirements
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience administering Microsoft 365 enterprise environments, including Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Intune, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online.
- Experience administering Windows Server, VMware, hyperconverged infrastructure, and enterprise networking environments.
- Experience with endpoint detection and response (EDR) and identity threat detection and response (ITDR) platforms, such as CrowdStrike.
- Strong knowledge of HPE Aruba Networking management, including the AOS 10 cloud-native wireless operating system, and Barracuda backup and recovery.
- Experience with SonicWall firewalls and Cloud Secure Edge (CSE) VPN.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, or a comparable Microsoft security certification (e.g., Identity and Access Administrator Associate, Security Operations Analyst Associate).
- Other relevant certifications in Microsoft technologies, security, storage, or networking — such as HPE Aruba Networking Certified Associate, Professional, or Expert.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with practical incident response experience.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced professional office environment. The employee has access to confidential information, including personnel records and materials related to legal proceedings. Errors in judgment could result in considerable confusion, monetary loss, delays in services, and adverse public relations.
May be required to work outside normal business hours to support departmental needs or respond to emergency situations. Must be able to pass a background check appropriate for working with public safety departments, including CJIS-compliant screening where required. A valid driver’s license is required for travel between Town facilities.
Physical Requirements
Minimal physical effort is typically required; some tasks may involve moderate physical activity. Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, and manual dexterity. The employee may occasionally need to climb ladders or lift and move equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read documents and operate computer systems.
