About the role

The System Float Pool Sr Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) position at Houston Methodist is an experienced and competent therapist responsible for performing advanced procedures as assigned, including intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, EBUS, electromagnetic navigation, ECMO, etc. This role also involves developing and teaching in-services/programs for the respiratory staff, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and serving as a mentor and resource to Respiratory Care team members and students.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced procedures as assigned, including intubation, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, EBUS, electromagnetic navigation, ECMO, etc.
  • Participates in developing and teaching in-services/programs for the respiratory staff.
  • Engages in quality improvement initiatives and research programs.
  • Serves as a mentor and resource to Respiratory Care team members and students.
  • Assumes duties associated with coordinating activities within the Respiratory department, floating to multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s).
  • Four years experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, with at least two in a critical care level (preferred at HMCCH).
  • Neonatal experience preferred.
  • Required licenses and certifications include RCP, RRT, BLS, ACLS, NRP, PALS, RRT-ACCS, NPS, CPFT, RPFT, RRT-SDS, AE-C, TTS, RPSGT.
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Capable of handling challenging/difficult procedures and patient care situations with sound judgment and above-average clinical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team player skills, able to adapt to multiple priorities and participate in problem-solving.
