About the role
Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated System Engineer (Door) who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks within our Rolling Stock Engineering Department. The position is based in Hagerstown, MD.
Accountabilities
The main accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare System Requirements Specifications (SyRS)
- Define and manage system interfaces (both internal and external) throughout the entire project lifecycle
- Analyze and assess technical documentation from Suppliers
- Prepare and verify system installation/integration drawings/specifications
- Conduct design reviews (both internal and with suppliers) for the assigned onboard systems, under the supervision of relevant Engineering Managers and Project Engineers
- Prepare Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS) as well as Functional Test Specifications (FTS) (including performance tests) for the assigned onboard systems
- Attend at system stand-alone type test and review of type test reports
- Support onboard integration, performance testing and validation phases
- Review design documentation with customers and suppliers and propose or make changes
- Ensure compliance with input requirements, international railway regulations and standards and project constraints (time, cost, quality)
- Prepare the documentation required for vehicle approval and support the homologation phase
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Experience (3-5 years) in the Railway sector or in complex industrial environments
- Good knowledge of main railway regulations and standards
- Good knowledge of IBM DOORS requirements management tool
- Experience with engineering processes and railway operations
- Good knowledge of system engineering and requirements management disciplines
- Good knowledge of RAMS principles and processes
- Experience with design verification and validation methodologies
- Experience with electrical / mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Creo, Catia, etc.)
- Experience with electrical, electronic and mechanical engineering disciplines
- Good knowledge of office automation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, international and multicultural environment
- Good organizational skills, alongside team-working, problem-solving and results-driven mindset
- Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders (including suppliers, partners, customers)
- Ability to work within project teams under minimal supervision
- Availability for occasional short-term national and international business trips

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering (Electrical, Electronics disciplines preferred)

Pay
The salary range for this position is $98,000 to $163,100 per year. Final pay is determined by the candidate's experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
