System Engineer

About the Role

The System Engineer will provide support for Navy Combat Systems running a mixture of virtualized Linux and Windows computer systems. This involves system builds, application and OS patching and upgrading, and troubleshooting system problems. A strong knowledge of AEGIS combat system interfaces and networks used for testing and training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot the system's virtualized environment using VMware.
• Configure and manage virtual machines (VMs), ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization.
• Automate system administration tasks using scripting languages: PowerShell, Ansible, Bash, and Python.
• Develop and maintain documentation for infrastructure processes and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with other team members to resolve technical issues and share knowledge.
• Troubleshoot complex problems independently, with minimal supervision.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the systems architecture, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) components, and complex system interdependencies.
• Install, configure, and maintain Linux (primarily RHEL and Ubuntu) and Windows operating systems.
• Provide support to the user community by responding to requests for technical assistance.

Requirements

• Six (6) or more years of experience supporting virtualized computer systems using VMware.
• Strong understanding of VMware and virtual machine configuration.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as PowerShell, Ansible, Bash, and Python.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex problems independently.
• Comprehensive understanding of system concepts, IaaS, and complex system architectures.
• Extensive knowledge of Linux (RHEL and Ubuntu) and Windows operating systems.
• Must be able to obtain a clearance at the SECRET level.
• Active Secret security clearance.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• AWS tactical knowledge in BL9 or BL10 environments.
• Programming or development experience.
• VMware or IaaS certifications.
• Containerization experience (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Pay

The anticipated salary for this position is $120,000 to $130,000.
