System Engineer
About the role
This role is based at the refinery located at 400 South Marathon Avenue, Robinson, Illinois 62454. The position is a long-term contract with a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Strong understanding of platform management tools for server administration, compute, storage, and networking.
- Knowledge of OT’s critical role in maintaining operational continuity.
- Ensure OT systems comply with applicable standards and frameworks.
- Interpret corporate security, risk, and compliance policies and translate them into actionable technical requirements for OT environments.
- Maintain compliance documentation, standards, procedures, and control mappings for IT/OT platforms.
- Extensive experience managing physical and virtual servers using technologies like VMware and Hyper-V.
- Expertise in compute resource allocation, performance tuning, capacity planning, and scalable infrastructure deployment.
- In-depth knowledge of Windows Server OS installation, configuration, and management.
- Proficiency in Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell scripting, DHCP, DNS, IIS, and file/print services.
- Expertise with Windows security practices such as patch management, firewall configuration, and access control.
- Strong Automation, SCCM, Power shell scripting background.
- Some experience configuring and managing switches, routers, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of VPNs, network segmentation, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Preferred experience in OT environments, including systems such as DCS and SCADA.
- IT Domain Experience: Proficiency in Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, and Windows Server administration for managing users, permissions, and configurations.
- Virtualization Expertise: Hands-on experience with VMware or Hyper-V for deploying, managing, and optimizing virtual environments to ensure system performance and high availability.
- Strong problem-solving skills, knowledge of systems architecture, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff are essential for this role.
