Reports directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) and is responsible for direct oversight, planning, and coordination of clinical pharmacy across the health system. Provides leadership for all clinical pharmacy activities at all system sites, including Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Residency Programs. Collaborates with leaders, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to achieve system-wide outcomes, improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, patient access, and optimize patient experience and quality.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and operational oversight, serving as the primary liaison between clinical and ancillary service lines.
- Represents the CPO in work groups and committees as requested.
- Provide hands-on leadership and operational improvement expertise to division-wide projects and teams.
- Ensure alignment with divisional and system operational plans and strategic priorities.
- Select, develop, and deploy staff effectively to meet objectives.
- Motivate and influence teams to align with the organization’s vision, mission, and goals.
- Foster a culture of continual, real-time feedback integrated with professional development.
- Assist with strategic projects and initiatives to further the mission and goals of MUSC Health.
- Oversee budget and variances for areas of responsibility; coach leaders on fiscal responsibility.
- Establish processes to improve efficiencies and drive financial improvement.
- Identify resource needs and obtain appropriate funding/approvals.
- Prepare and review departmental budgets monthly for areas of improvement.
- Assist in developing business plans, Pro Formas, and budgets for assigned projects.
- Assess staffing to ensure alignment with national benchmarks and needs.
- Ensure optimal care team member, provider, and patient experience.
- Develop strategies to standardize patient and provider experiences across all areas.
- Collaborate with leadership to drive patient and family experience across the continuum of care.
- Round to identify opportunities and remove barriers.
- Ensure highest levels of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Optimize operations and ensure standardization across all locations.
- Develop and implement strategies for adequate space utilization.
- Establish and maintain operational excellence.
- Partner with leadership to ensure smooth patient flow and implement best practices.

- Identify top talent and provide growth and development opportunities.

Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree and master’s degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g., Healthcare Administration, MS, or MBA) or equivalent experience.
- 5 years of operational/clinical pharmacy management experience in specialty pharmacy environments, with at least 3 years in a direct supervisory or team leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with leaders and multiple disciplines.
- Proven talent in selecting and mentoring high-quality teams.
- Ability to lead change, organize teams, and delegate responsibility effectively.
- Proven ability to use data to drive performance improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills across diverse groups and mediums (written, oral, presentation).
- SC Pharmacist License or eligibility for licensure within 6 months.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
