Oversees pharmacy operations for two or more MLH facilities.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and controls Pharmacy operations;
- Maintains informedness on operations to ensure professional and hospital standards are met;
- Directs the activities of management and clerical Associates;
- Motivates Associates; promotes cooperation among individuals and groups;
- Indirectly supervises professional and service Associates;
- Plans and conducts activities for staff development;
- Manages and administers hospital policies and procedures involving Associates, including staffing activities, Corrective Action and performance appraisal;
- Prepares annual expense budget and capital requests for the Pharmacy department; monitors budget and other financial indicators during the year;
- Controls costs and improves department operations;
- Develops and implements plans to control costs and improve department operations;
- Serves on MLH Pharmacy Planning and Operations Committee;
- Develops and maintains quality improvement programs for Pharmacy;
- Ensures that productivity and QA data is compiled and reports prepared for MLH management and regulatory bodies;
- Participates in pharmacy education activities;
- Proposes enhancements for academic programs;
- Encourages and models good working relationships between medical staff and department Associates.
Education/Formal Training Requirements:
- Required - Doctorate Pharmacy
- PREFERRED - Master's Degree Business Administration
- PREFERRED - Master's Degree Healthcare Administration
Work Experience Requirements:
- Required - Progressive management in a hospital pharmacy 5-7 years
Licenses and Certifications:
- Preferred - Pharmacist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Pharmacy
- Preferred - Pharmacy Technician - Mississippi - Mississippi Board of Pharmacy
- Knowledge of pharmacy principles and procedures commensurate with education/experience;
- Knowledge of Pharmacy administration principles and methods commensurate with education/experience;
- Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as business plans;
- Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates, management, physicians and patients and their families;
- Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups of people toward the accomplishment of work and organizational goals;
- Skill in negotiating with and between individuals and groups of people, including Associates, management and physicians.
- Provides direct and indirect supervision for all Pharmacy Associates.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
- The Associate is required to travel locally occasionally.
