System Development Engineer, AWS Mainstream Compute

Key job responsibilities

• Solve complex problems as part of a team.
• Decompose big difficult server system testability, reliability, and diagnosis problems into straightforward tasks, components, or features.
• Use a combination of hardware, software, system designs, x86 architecture, processes, diagnosis, and operations knowledge.

AWS Hardware Engineering team creates compute and storage server designs for Amazon’s web services. Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• 5+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems, and hands-on systems engineering experience.
• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.
• Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware, or experience in debugging, profiling, and implementing software engineering best practices in large-scale systems.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
• Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
• Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience with test plan development, building the necessary test bench infrastructure, developing tests, and verifying the design.
• 5+ years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience.
