About the role

Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is seeking an experienced, innovative, hands-on, and customer-obsessed System Development Engineer to lead the development of new robotic products for AMZL Delivery Stations. This role involves strategizing, defining, and managing the software development of robotics technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and continuously improve software for AMZL
  • Work with Product Owners and System Developers to define and develop the software structure for new concepts involving AMZL's automation and robotics technology
  • Deeply understand and integrate new technologies from vendors into AMZL's software architecture
  • Test and commission developed software on machines in Innovation Centers and operational sites

Requirements

  • Advanced technical expertise in industrial automation systems (TIA Portal 16+, Codesys 3.5, HMI, VFDs, Servo Drive, Industrial Fieldbuses like Ethernet-IP Profinet EtherCAT, IO-Link)
  • Advanced technical expertise in industrial communication protocols (TCP-IP, OPC-UA)
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities for complex systems
  • Hands-on experience with camera systems and Linux OS (preferred)
  • Familiarity with version control systems like git
  • Knowledge of Object-Oriented Industrial Programming (OOIP)
  • Experience managing software development, including designing, developing, integrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing various automation solutions
  • Strong project management skills, including on-site commissioning and Site Acceptance Testing processes
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills across diverse cultural contexts
  • Familiarity with international safety machinery standards and certification processes
  • Experience with automation solutions like conveyors, sorters, and robotic work cells

Qualifications

  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
  • Experience leading the design, build, and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production
  • Industrial controls and automation experience
  • Experience directly developing control strategies in CODESYS

Skills

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
