About the Role
The System Designer & Estimator Lighting supports the Sales and Engineering teams by translating customers' functional requirements into bills of materials, quotes, and functional narratives for fully functional lighting systems.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret functional requirements and site survey information from Sales and RFP documents.
- Collaborate with Sales to identify solutions that meet client needs and budgets while balancing industry standards and best practices.
- Author bills of materials, quotes, and functional narratives to document proposed solutions clearly for clients and internal teams.
- Use DaVinci System Designer to verify hardware selection for each project based on unique characteristics.
- Attend design, project kick-off, and other project-related meetings as needed.
- Advise on and review drawing packages for accuracy and design intent.
- Author change orders for contracted projects as needed.
- Respond to technical questions from the Operations team according to installation schedules.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies offered by the company.
- Maintain vendor relationships through meetings, educational sessions, and communication.
- Assist in developing and implementing technical standards and processes.
- Collaborate with the Engineering Manager on continuing education plans.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of lighting fixtures and control systems, with 7+ years of design, installation, technical theatrical, or touring/production experience.
- In-depth knowledge of theatrical and architectural lighting systems, Lightwright, Vectorworks, and ETC Lighting products.
- Familiarity with high voltage (120/208v) power distribution and low-voltage control system wiring.
- Experience with construction documentation, including floor plans, RCPs, building sections, schematics, and riser diagrams.
- Understanding of bid processes and consultant specification documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project-driven deadlines.
- Strong teamwork skills in an interdisciplinary culture.
- Commitment to constant process improvement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ownership of a smartphone for app-based communication (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of theatrical rigging systems and hardware.
- ETC Lighting Authorized Service Provider or ETC Rigging Authorized Service Provider certification.
- ETCP Entertainment Electrician certification.
- Experience with SketchUp.
Working Conditions
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands/fingers for computer and telephone work.
- Close vision abilities required for extended computer use.
- Light to moderate lifting may be required.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required.
