About the role

CAE Defense & Security is seeking a Simulator System Architect to support our rotary aircraft simulator product line. The System Architect is responsible for designing, integrating, and overseeing the end-to-end architecture of high-fidelity flight and maintenance training systems.

Responsibilities

  • Translates mission/training requirements into a coherent, scalable architecture that balances performance, safety, and cost.
  • Guides overall design decisions and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Led the technical solution activities as the overall design authority during capture and program execution phases.
  • Ensures the system architecture adheres to security, interoperability, and performance standards, plus cost targets.
  • Selects the appropriate technologies and tools that best meet system requirements, considering IRAD, future scalability, sustainability, and cost.
  • Analyzes the system to ensure that it will meet the stated performance requirements (e.g. flight performance, stability, weight, power, timing, human factors, throughput, etc.).
  • Provides system-level decision making regarding trade-offs (e.g. cost vs performance).
  • Creates the product line roadmap in compliance with the technology roadmap, reference architectures and functional product roadmaps.
  • Defines “how” the training system can be structured to best comply with the Customer Requirements, including the extent of re-use of existing components and equipment.
  • Identifies technical risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure simulator reliability and operator safety.
  • Works closely with program, product and functional management to guide technical direction and ensure that the training system meets schedule and cost requirements.
  • Stays current with emerging simulation technologies, industry standards, and best practices; recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Represents CAE USA at industry technical forums and customer oral presentations.

  • Familiarity with aircraft communication standards (UDP/TCP, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC).
  • Flight-dynamics and avionics modeling experience.
  • Motion and control loading system experience.
  • Knowledge of graphics pipelines (OpenGL/DirectX/Vulkan) and rendering engines.
  • Experience with distributed simulation interoperability standards (DIS, HLA, GSI).
  • System modeling (SysML, UML) experience.
  • Applied performance profiling and optimization techniques.
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering or related technical field.
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent (e.g., INCOSE).
  • Mentoring and team leadership experience.
  • End-to-end System Design experience in a Modeling tool: SysML, Cameo Enterprise Architecture.
  • Experience with various rotary wing aircraft including MH-60R, UH-60, CH-47, V-22, FLRAA.
