System Administrator

About the role

Intertek is seeking a System Administrator to join our Connected World team in Rockville, MD. This role focuses on overseeing, maintaining, and planning the growth of our infrastructure while handling the receipt, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of customer devices for cybersecurity testing. Intertek’s Connected World solutions help secure IoT products and systems, ensuring they meet global regulatory requirements for safety, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Install and configure network devices (e.g., switches, routers, firewalls, wireless network devices, virtualization servers).
• Work with devices from a wide range of vendors and engage with vendors for troubleshooting.
• Monitor, identify, and resolve network and device issues quickly to minimize downtime.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
• Collaborate with co-workers and management to ensure infrastructure meets business demands.
• Provide routine support for in-house and remote computer systems using Windows 11 and virtualization servers.
• Maintain a working database or inventory of client and internal devices, IPs, and access control.
• Work with internal customers to provide system solutions.
• Write effective technical documentation as assigned.
• Stay abreast of current technology.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or equivalent education, experience, and training (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
• At least two years of computer network maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Server products and hands-on experience with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu, Rocky Linux, Red Hat, or CentOS).
• Knowledge of networking topologies and network wiring systems.
• Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPN, and routers.
• Extensive experience utilizing several operating systems.
• Certified Network Engineer or other technical certification (e.g., CCNA or MCSE) preferred.
• Experience with Cisco-based equipment and VMware is a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines.
• Detailed-oriented with strong prioritization, organization, and time management skills.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Customer-focused and quality-driven.
• Ability to travel as business needs dictate.

Preferred Qualifications

• CCNA certification, Network+ certification, or familiarity with wireless technology and networks.
• Industry certifications such as Security+ or MCSE.
• Scripting experience.

Pay

The base wage or salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000. Individual compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, experience, and qualifications.
