Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Synthetic Radiochemist to join our Regulatory Chemistry team in Indianapolis, IN. This role supports the synthesis of isotopically-labeled test materials and reference standards for R&D research studies, enabling the registration of new and existing active ingredients.

About the Role

The individual will conduct hands-on synthetic experimentation, serve as a single point of contact for synthetic needs across various active ingredients, and develop synthetic routes to meet registration deadlines. Additionally, they will act as a synthetic chemistry subject matter expert (SME) for test material planning, budget allocations, stereoisomer considerations, and structure elucidation.

Responsibilities

  • Determine isotope labeling synthesis strategies with key stakeholders and synthetically validate and prepare carbon-14, carbon-13, and nitrogen-15 labeled molecules.
  • Develop novel routes and isolation techniques for metabolite and impurity reference standards to support analytical and regulatory R&D studies.
  • Prepare quotations to enable procurement of isotopically labeled reagents.
  • Conduct experiments and collect data accurately and efficiently according to GLP standards.
  • Develop synthetic plans and analyze experimental results under minimal guidance, producing reproducible data and detailed reports.
  • Troubleshoot project challenges and resolve issues independently.
  • Handle radiotracers safely and compliantly according to established SOPs and the Radiation Safety Manual while maintaining a clean and organized lab environment.
  • Meet all Corteva EHS&S compliance standards and foster a strong commitment to safety.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated competence in synthetic organic chemistry with prior laboratory experience (preferred).
  • Prior experience in radiochemical and isotope synthesis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to drive projects to completion.
  • Proficiency in laboratory software and data analysis tools, including electronic laboratory notebooks, HPLCs, Beta-RAM detectors, NMR, and mass spectrometers.
  • Effective communication of project status and timelines to diverse R&D team members and stakeholders.
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in organic chemistry or related fields, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience.
