Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs of students.
• Collaborates with grade level teachers and specialists to provide comprehensive services.
• Affirms and implements research-based strategies for student transition and generalization.
• Absorbs and assesses student progress, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Utilizes classroom management strategies, including a positive behavior intervention system.
• Gathers and analyzes various sources of information for progress monitoring and data-based decision-making.
• Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests.
• Develops clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Prepares for classes and shows evidence of preparation upon request.
• Employs instructional techniques and media consistent with the location and students' capabilities.
• Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy, goals, and objectives.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law and administrative regulations.
• Determines the learning challenges of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists.
• Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintains an ongoing program of professional growth.
• Participates in the teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements.
• Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making.
• Contributes to decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Serves as a supervisor for assigned paraprofessionals.
• Coordinates student and staff schedules to comply with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and optimize resource use.
• Consults with staff and administration on instructional and student issues.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
• Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 OR Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities All Grades.
• Valid Massachusetts SEI Endorsement OR Grade-level appropriate ESL License.
• Complies with state and federal guidelines for full licensure and High-Quality status.
• Authorization to work in the United States by the start of employment.
• Prior experience in urban, high-poverty, or turnaround schools is preferred.
• A major or minor in the specific teaching content area is preferred.
• Additional certification in Teacher of English Language Learners (ESL) is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in English Language Development (ELD) and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) strategies is highly valued.
• Bilingual language proficiency (Spanish/English) is preferred.
• Experience working with students with moderate to severe needs is preferred.
