SY 26-27 Special Education/ MLL Coordinator
The Role
The Sped/MLL Coordinator at Nuasin Next Generation Charter School will manage and work with staff to identify scholars who are not making adequate academic progress and design appropriate interventions. They will oversee educational programming, monitor Individual Educational Plans, and collaborate with the School Leadership Team to improve instruction and scholar achievement.
Responsibilities
- Manages and works with staff for the purpose of identifying scholars who are not making adequate academic progress and designing appropriate interventions.
- Manages resource allocations and curriculum enhancements for the purpose of ensuring they are based on needs assessment.
- Oversees the continuum of appropriate educational programming for all scholars and implementation of schoolwide MTSS supports.
- Provides leadership and support to schools during transition planning processes for scholars with special educational needs.
- Makes sure Individual Educational Plans are monitored and supported by school teams.
- Provides leadership during the development and revision of job descriptions for all scholars services personnel.
- Shares current research-based models with principals for the identification of exceptional education scholars and intervention in their academic progress.
- Meets with teachers regularly to discuss data trends and problem-solves with teachers to prioritize actions impacting scholar performance.
- Uses data to inform decision-making, develop and modify curriculum, and implement targeted and differentiated instruction.
- Serves as a content and pedagogical expert in the areas for which they are responsible.
- Determines the need for curricular materials, assessment materials, and instructional resources; communicates ordering needs with the Manager of Business Operations.
- Collaborates with the School Leadership Team to continuously improve personal practice, classroom instruction, assessment, and scholar achievement, as well as the overall goals and mission of the school.
- Provides a variety of learning opportunities for teachers focused on analyzing scholar work, effective planning, targeted and differentiated instruction, and high expectations for classroom culture and behavior.
- Conducts regular formal and informal classroom walk-throughs aligned to scholar achievement and strategic goals.
- Observes and gives feedback on school-wide systems and classroom culture.
- Directly coaches and develops a portfolio of teachers.
- Observes lessons regularly and delivers targeted feedback to teachers.
- Collaborates with grade/subject teams to plan units, lessons, and assessments; regularly shares feedback.
- Models outstanding instruction for teachers.
- Participates actively and proactively in regular leadership team meetings.
- Leads staff training at the start, during, and end of the school year and on professional development days.
- Aids teacher leaders in developing leadership skills.
- Models the Nuasin Next Generation professional and core values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community.
- Serves on a scholar support team, providing RTI support prior to referral.
- Leads team and schoolwide professional development on areas as defined by the strategic plan and other data points.
- Co-teaches, models, and provides exemplars for amazing instruction.
- Evaluates programs and/or projects for the purpose of carrying out and achieving objectives within the area of responsibility.
- Serves as a district representative for IEP meetings as needed.
- Ensures accurate and timely submission of district billing.
- Ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each scholar/family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level.
- Prepares documentation and reports data.
- Supports families to facilitate scholar success.
- Supervises and evaluates pupil services staff and contractors/referral service providers.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field, and at least 3 years of experience working with students with special needs. A valid teaching license is required, and experience in implementing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is preferred. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Qualifications
The Sped/MLL Coordinator should possess a strong understanding of special education laws and regulations, as well as knowledge of best practices in special education and inclusive education. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with data management software is also required.

Pay
The anticipated salary range is $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 for a candidate who will work in New York City. The salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience to the job, education, and certifications.
Schedule
The Sped/MLL Coordinator will work a standard school schedule, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
