Switching / Transload Operator

Job Summary

OL&B Railway is seeking a high-performing, motivated, and reliable Switching and Transload Operator. The ideal candidate should have experience in construction or agriculture and possess mechanical skills with problem-solving abilities. This position involves daily switching operations, locomotive and railcar maintenance, and assisting with track maintenance.

About the Role

OL&B Railway is a Class III switching railroad that handles interchanges between Union Pacific and BNSF. The company is part of NEBCO, a fourth-generation, family-owned business founded in 1908 with over 1,100 employees across Nebraska.

Responsibilities

• Abide by FRA, AAR, OSHA, DOT, and other regulations.
• Perform railcar switching, delivery, and counting.
• Climb onto railcars, operate straps, open/close doors, and use ramps.
• Safely operate forklifts and other equipment for material handling.
• Complete inventory and documentation, ensuring correct material movement.
• Assist with track maintenance and upkeep.
• Maintain and repair OL&B locomotives, railcars, and other equipment.
• Provide support services as needed, including driving for offloading lumber.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Previous experience in mechanical repair, construction, or agriculture.
• Valid driver's license and insurability under the company's insurance program.
• CDL is helpful but not mandatory.
• CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification through company training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and repair sheets.
• Proficiency in MS Office products for tracking and reporting.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
