Switchboard Operator Per Diem

A Brief Overview
The Switchboard Operator processes all calls to the switchboard and acts as a liaison between the public and Holy Name Hospital. Key responsibilities include:
- Answering telephone calls in a clear and concise manner and providing necessary information in a courteous and professional manner.
- Advancing callers to appropriate destination numbers.
- Processing patient requests through computerized telephone systems, installing patient telephones.
- Disconnecting telephone service based on IBM daily discharge lists.
- Initiating opening and closing of patient’s phones at designated times.
- Entering required data in various computerized voice/data systems.
- Orally telephoning patients to inform them of telephone service and dialing instructions.
- Responding in a timely and professional manner to various emergency alarm systems and notifying designated personnel.
- Monitoring lists of all current on-call emergency services and maintaining correct beeper and home phone numbers.
- Demonstrating effective oral communication skills.
- Maintaining understanding of all disaster plan policies and procedures and being able to implement necessary responses accordingly.
- Forwarding all necessary repair requests and handicap equipment requests to the Director/Technician of Communications.
- Fulfilling instructions and guidance given by the Director of Communications.
- Informing the Director of all patient or staff complaints or concerns.
- Performing any related duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Computerized PBX switchboard training and experience are preferred, along with computerized data entry experience.
Experience Qualifications
Trained and experienced on computerized PBX switchboards. Computerized data entry experience is a plus.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A proven record of excellent verbal communication skills. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Pay Range
$18.00/hour - $21.00/hour
