Switch Technician

About the role

Switch Technicians operate and troubleshoot various switches at the Aegis and SSDS facilities. Technicians perform daily switch tests to ensure all switches are operational for customer use. These switches include NTDS A, B, D, and E interfaces on Data Terminal Switch (DTS), XCOM, Purvis, and NOSC. Fiber and CAT-5/CAT-6 interfaces reside on APCON, NetScout, and Curtiss-Wright switches, controlled via the Next Generation Switch Controller (NGSC). Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, and installing new switches, as well as maintaining a working network to support testing events at SCSC.

Technicians troubleshoot switch paths for system interfaces, including bypassing switches to isolate issues between site equipment and switching. The role supports SCSC events on two shifts, sometimes including weekends, with a quarterly switch weekend dedicated to maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive equipment and system-level troubleshooting.
• Provide system and equipment configuration and operational support for all deployed baseline AEGIS and SSDS variants.
• Assess and troubleshoot cable interface issues on Navy computer suites.
• Install, repair, and maintain switches and network infrastructure.
• Create switching runs for new equipment using basic electronics knowledge and creative problem-solving.
• Work varied shifts, including weekends, based on project needs and monthly/quarterly maintenance schedules.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience assessing and troubleshooting cable interface issues on Navy computer suites.
• Basic electronics knowledge.
• Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and quarterly maintenance weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Certified ETA Fiber Optic Installer.
• Security+ Certification.
• Experience with network devices and understanding of operating systems, preferably RedHat or UNIX.

Pay

This position is covered by the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA). The wage range is determined by the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor on a contract-by-contract basis.
