About the Role

This position oversees deck operations, staff supervision, and aquatic programming at the facility. Responsibilities include greeting and supervising patrons, providing guidance to swim instructors, lifeguards, and site supervisors, managing facility opening/closing procedures, completing records and reports, handling reservations for specialty groups, and supervising evening and weekend swim programs. The role also involves staff training and overall pool operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers, fostering open communication and a respectful workplace culture.
  • Participate in citywide training to strengthen competencies in collaboration, communication, leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrate understanding and respect for diversity within the community, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Assist in scheduling, executing, and supervising aquatic programs and services for all segments of Plymouth’s population.
  • Propose, design, and implement new programs, initiatives, and events.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and service quality, implementing modifications to enhance experiences.
  • Act in various capacities to support aquatic programs, including site supervisor, lifeguard, and swim instructor as needed.
  • Collaborate with department staff, city staff, schools, and other agencies to establish joint partnerships and innovative programs.
  • Maintain recreation program supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to public inquiries, communicate departmental procedures, and ensure program information is effectively publicized.
  • Make timely operational decisions (e.g., cancellations, class size adjustments) and handle complaints professionally.
  • Collect and organize program data, research trends, and identify potential opportunities.
  • Conduct staff orientation, training, and performance evaluations based on policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of temporary staff.
  • Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor on sponsorship opportunities and donation requests.
  • Maintain records, statistics, and reports to track and document budget status.
  • Assist with other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Availability for weekday evenings and daytime weekend hours.
  • Supervisory experience with strong leadership qualities.
  • Experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or ability to achieve within 60 days of hire).
  • Proficiency with technology and computer experience (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, recreation software).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification.
  • Aqua Fitness Instructor certification.

Physical Requirements

Frequent physical activities include:

  • Standing, swimming, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, handling objects, and repetitive hand motion.
  • Stationary desk or bench work with neck bent forward.
  • Pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, and bending at the waist.
  • Use of arm and leg muscles over extended periods.

The employee must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds, including program supplies and aquatics equipment.
