Responsibilities
- Teach swim lessons in compliance with YMCA of the USA guidelines and levels
- Safety of all swimmers during lessons
- Engagement of swim lesson participants
- Reports to work in uniform 10 minutes before shift
- Conducts classes according to YMCA of the USA Aquatic Program
- Adapts lessons to local conditions
- Evaluates students' abilities honestly
- Attends all scheduled classes; substitutes and prepares lesson plans when absent
- Promotes the Y Swimming Lessons program
- Assists with administrative tasks
- Prepares and returns equipment to proper storage
- Engages and assists participants
- Focuses on quality experiences and engagement
- Maintains a professional image and a clean, safe environment
- Works with diverse populations, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
- Attends and participates in meetings
- Adheres to the YCM Code of Conduct and the four character values of the YMCA
- Promotes the Y mission and objectives
- Completes training on child abuse prevention
- Complies with legal reporting requirements
Requirements
Ability to work with diverse populations, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
Qualifications
Experience in swimming instruction, CPR certification, and first aid training preferred
Skills
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Patience and empathy towards children and adults
