Job Summary
Provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in individual and group swim lessons. Instructs diverse community members, including people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Instructs swim lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
- Develops positive relationships with members and participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Communicates information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers members and participants to other programs.
- Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
- Attends all required staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Works alongside risk-management staff to ensure safety of lesson and program participants.
- Follows and advocates all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
- Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
- Works alongside trainees to demonstrate high-quality lesson delivery as assigned by management.
- Meets all other expectations and employee requirements as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
- Active American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification (available upon hire)
- Active YMCA Swim Instructor certification (available upon hire)
- At least 15 years of age
