About the Role
The Swim Instructor teaches swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA program standards under the supervision of the Aquatics Director/Coordinator, aligning with the YMCA's mission.
Responsibilities
- Teach swim lessons following YMCA of the USA standards.
- Create a positive learning environment through personal enthusiasm.
- Maintain safety, order, and enforce rules during lessons.
- Keep accurate records of attendance and skills achieved by each student.
- Provide written records of progress to students.
- Use swim aids effectively to maximize practice time.
- Follow written lesson plans for efficient class time.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training.
- Conduct program evaluations.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Create a safe, inclusive environment by adhering to YMCA policies on abuse prevention, reporting, and maintaining boundaries with youth and members.
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Must successfully complete and maintain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification (24 hours) prior to teaching alone or within 90 days if currently a Red Cross Swim Instructor.
- Current certifications (renewed annually):
- Professional Level CPR
- First Aid
- Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
- Oxygen Administration
- Complete the following trainings before the first shift (renewed annually):
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Child Abuse Prevention
- Complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection prior to employment.
- Complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hire.
- Successfully complete at least 4 hours of teaching under direct supervision before leading a class independently.
- Present a professional, mature image with excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Pay
USD $11.25 - USD $13.25 per hour.
