Responsibilities
- Instructs students on safety rules and applies appropriate discipline.
- Ensures adequate practice time for all students to learn skills.
- Fulfills logical skill progressions and covers relevant information within time constraints.
- Corrects improper strokes or skills using positive feedback.
- Communicates effectively with students in a patient and friendly manner.
- Administers First Aid and/or CPR as necessary.
- Reports any hazards or issues to the Director immediately.
- Educates participants on pool area rules and regulations.
- Works effectively with others aligned with the YMCA 4 Core Values.
- Models the 4 Core Values in all aspects of the position.
- Observes and enforces safety regulations, applying appropriate policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 16 years of age.
- Current YMCA Swim Lesson (YSL) Certification or American Red Cross WSI Certification (must obtain YSL within 6 months).
- Current CPR PRO/AED certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
- Current First Aid certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
- Current O2 certification from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute.
- Experience instructing swim lessons preferred.
- Passes written and practical skills exam prior to duty.
- YMCA considers qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
Pay
USD $19.69 - USD $21.66 /Hr.
