About the Role
The Swim Instructor supports the YMCA of Collier County, a not-for-profit organization focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The role involves teaching and leading water-based skills and activities, fostering a safe and positive environment, and adapting to meet diverse health, ability, and cultural needs.
Responsibilities
- Instruct and evaluate students participating in swimming lessons.
- Ensure the safety of participants in your class.
- Begin and end classes on time; remain after class to answer questions from participants and/or parents.
- Maintain cleanliness and organize swim lesson equipment.
- Submit completed skill sheets, certificates, and attendance information on time.
- Maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
- Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- Ability to pass the deep-water swim test.
- Ability to work independently with energy and enthusiasm.
- Strong interpersonal skills to positively interact with the public and communicate well with children of all ages.
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or willingness to obtain it.
- Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate swim lesson skills.
- Understanding of swim lesson equipment (e.g., kickboards, diving sticks).
- Previous swimming or instructing experience preferred.
- Ability to relate to diverse groups from various social and economic backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Must pass the Association’s background screening requirements.
