Position With a Purpose
At Foss Swim School (FOSS), Swim Instructors (actual title is Swim Teacher) are more than instructors — they are mentors, educators, and trusted leaders who help students build confidence and life-long safety skills in and around the water. Whether you are beginning your teaching journey or looking to grow within aquatics, FOSS is looking for Swim Teachers who want to grow their skills, build lasting relationships with students and families, and become trusted professionals in the water.

Schedule
Part-time, year-round schedule with a minimum of 12 hours per week. Typically, 3 shifts per week, each shift is approximately 4 hours. Weekday evening shifts starting around 3:30 p.m. Weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) Substitute shifts (+ $1.00/hour)
What You’ll Own
Teach 1–4 students per class using hands-on instruction and the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
Create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students build confidence, skills, and lifelong water safety habits.
Build strong relationships with students and families by celebrating progress, sharing updates, and creating an experience that keeps swimmers motivated and families confident.
Collaborate with fellow team members to support school goals and ensure every student receives exceptional instruction.
Take ownership of each lesson by preparing, adapting, and helping swimmers achieve their goals.
Observe student performance, recognize safety risks, and maintain awareness of multiple students at all times.
Bring energy, enthusiasm, and purpose to every class while helping students reach important milestones.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work in and around a warm, humid indoor swimming pool environment with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
Participate in water-based training and instruction, including putting your face in the water, floating, going underwater, and demonstrating skills within the FOSS Swim Path® curriculum.
Demonstrate basic swim strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Safely move throughout the pool and remain active in water up to 4 feet deep while teaching, supervising students, and responding to safety situations.
Effectively monitor students, communicate with students, families, and teammates, and respond appropriately in a busy aquatic environment.
Read and comprehend written and digital training materials and use a computer to complete online training courses, videos, reading assignments, and assessments.
Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and other movements required to teach and assist students.
Work safely around pool chemicals, industrial equipment, and other supplies commonly found in an aquatic facility.
