Swim Instructor
About the role
Foss Swim School is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Swim Teachers to join our team. As a Swim Teacher, you will be more than just an instructor; you will be a mentor, educator, and trusted leader who helps students build confidence and life-long safety skills in and around the water.
Responsibilities
- Teach 1–4 students per class using hands-on instruction and the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
- Create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students build confidence, skills, and lifelong water safety habits.
- Build strong relationships with students and families by celebrating progress, sharing updates, and creating an experience that keeps swimmers motivated and families confident.
- Collaborate with fellow team members to support school goals and ensure every student receives exceptional instruction.
- Observe student performance, recognize safety risks, and maintain awareness of multiple students at all times.
- Bring energy, enthusiasm, and purpose to every class while helping students reach important milestones.

Requirements
- Must be 18+ years old.
- Can lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a warm indoor pool environment.
- Enjoy working with children and helping others succeed.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic swim strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly).
- Ability to work in a warm, humid indoor swimming pool environment with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
- Knowledge of the FOSS Swim Path curriculum.
- Experience in a similar role or relevant training.

Pay
Hourly starting at $19.00, with additional training leading to increased earning potential. Weekend shifts earn an additional $3.00/hour, and substitute shifts earn an additional $1.00/hour. Quarterly performance bonuses are also available.
Schedule
Part-time, year-round schedule with a minimum of 10-12 hours per week. Typically, 3 shifts per week, each shift is 3-4-hours. Shifts typically start around 3:45 p.m. on weekdays and include weekend shifts (Saturday or Sunday) and substitute shifts (+ $1.00/hour).
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work in and around a warm, humid indoor swimming pool environment with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
- Participate in water-based training and instruction, including putting your face in the water, floating, going underwater, and demonstrating skills within the FOSS Swim Path® curriculum.
- Demonstrate basic swim strokes, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
- Safely move throughout the pool and remain active in water up to 4 feet deep while teaching, supervising students, and responding to safety situations.
- Effectively monitor students, communicate with students, families, and teammates, and respond appropriately in a busy aquatic environment.
- Read and comprehend written and digital training materials and use a computer to complete online training courses, videos, reading assignments, and assessments.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, stooping, and other movements required to teach and assist students.
- Work safely around pool chemicals, industrial equipment, and other supplies commonly found in an aquatic facility.
